postheadericon EFA League Division 3: Reptonians show their hand

The Reptonians have left it late this year to start their Division 3 campaign but started with a bang at Westway this week with a 2½-½ win over Lancing Old Boys. Most encouragingly, given the relatively dormant state of Fives at Repton in recent years, is the arrival on the scene of some new Reptonian players - Oliver Malcolm, Seb Moore and Alex Rowles. Moore and Malcolm both played their part in the win over Lancing, Moore partnering Dave Mew at first pair against Will Betts and Julian Black and missing out on a 3-2 win as the lights went out at 10-4 in the fifth. The Stoic duo of Karl Wagner and Mike Skjott were 1-1 at second pair against OL veterans Nigel Cox and Paul Baddely when an injury to Nigel forced them to concede and Malcolm partnered skipper and fellow OR Sam Basu to a hard fought five game win over Richard Black and the fast-improving Karen Hird at third pair. With the Old Carthusians 2 withdrawing from the league, Lancing have now finished their Division 3 campaign on 5 points, leaving the Reptonians, The Abbey and Windsor & Eton to challenge favourites Team Westway for the title.
