postheadericon EFA League: Threeway battle at the top of Division 2

The three early season pacesetters in Division 2 have all been in action over the past couple of weeks and have moved clear of the field at this stage. Highgate have been making good use of the availability of several Old Cholmeleians this year and have been pairing up old boys and schoolboys to good effect. A 3-0 win over the Old Westminsters 2 took them briefly top of the table before a 2-1 defeat to a strong Old Millhillians 2 side stopped them in their tracks. The other two teams in the mix met at Westway last week as North Oxford and the Old Stoics locked horns. The Stoics top four of Dave Mew, Ed Hewens, Ryan Perrie and Mike Skjott were all in imperious form and it's going to take quite an effort for any team to take points off that Stoic quartet if they are all in action. North Oxford did manage to salvage a point with a win at third pair thanks to veterans Nigel Cox and Justin Shaw, to keep themselves in contention. The Stoics stunning run then continued as the Carthusians were blown away 3-0 a few days later, also at Westway, before North Oxford got their season back on track with a hard fought 3-0 win over Highgate at Eton at the weekend, Old Cholmeleian Chris Davies heroically clinching the vital third point against his alma mater at second pair despite pulling a calf muscle early in the second game. The upshot of all of that action is that North Oxford sit top with 14 points from 6 matches with the Stoics perched menacingly on their shoulder with 13 from 5 and Highgate in third with 12 from 6. The other teams in the division have some catching up to do but with games in hand, several of them will fancy their chances of challenging the top three later in the season.
