EFA League: Harrovians back on the winning trail
The Old Harrovians returned to winning ways at Westway on Wednesday night as they claimed all three points against Old Salopians 1 to move up a couple of places in the Division 1 standings. Will Sorrell and Jamie Fleming produced an impressive display at first pair to win against the dangerous Ed Taylor/T Walters combination, with OH captain Nick Shaw paying tribute to Jamie's returning of the formidable Taylor cut. The returning Ross Bryan teamed up with captain Shaw for a comfortable victory at second pair against Marc Quinn and Craig Webster, while third pair gave an opportunity for last year's top Harrow School pair of Tommy Faber and Alex Poole to gain some valuable experience. A late Salopian withdrawal meant that the point was in the bag for the Harrovians before the start, but with Seb Cooley standing in for the Salopians alongside Pete Nichols, the two youngsters had a tough game on their hands. They acquitted themselves well, sharing the first two games 11-12, 12-11 with Poole impressing on top step, before Seb's know how took the game away from them in the third and fourth.
Across London, the Stoics were winning their third consecutive Division 2 match of the season, with a 2-1 triumph over the Old Ipswichians at Westminster. The formidable looking top pair of Dave Mew and Ryan Perrie were too good for the battling Fletcher brothers at first pair, and Ed Hewens and Simon Baring won a tight second pair match in four games against Mark Graves and Robin Chatterjee. However, the experienced OI duo of Simon Woolfries and Richard Wood gained a valuable point for the Ipswichians at third pair as they were too strong for Jurgen Hutter and Karl Wagner of the Stoics.
